King Dork is a funny story about a teenager named Tom Henderson who wants his highschool experience to be perfect: girls, bands, and parties. But getting all this stuff is harder than he thought. Especially when: you're a nerd with an embarrassing friend, your mom is a druggie, and her new boyfriend is a hippy who seems to have no connection to the real world. Despite all of the roadblocks, Tom persists and does the only thing he can do slightly well, play guitar with his best friend Sam Hellerman. But if they don't find a drummer by the time the Battle of the Bands comes around they'll both be doomed. Oh, and Tom also finds his dead father's copy of Catcher in the Rye that's filled with secret messages and weird stories. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a slightly relatable main character and a funny short read, but I would not let anyone under 13 read this book because of sexual content and harsh language.
